Abstract :
In this paper, a method to obtain the free space antenna factor of an optically driven antenna is presented. This method might be used for other small antennas as well. The essence of the method is to use the reciprocity of a TEM-cell, which is demonstrated in this paper. An optically driven antenna is very useful for the validation of anechoic test sites. The optically driven antenna shows exactly the behaviour as expected from an antenna that combines a loop and a dipole. In the power frequency-range (up to 30 MHz) the loop is dominant above 170 MHz the dipole. The results above 200 MHz are almost identical to the results obtained in real free space in open air at 10 m above ground
