Abstract :
The development of a computational method for extracting character portions from a complicated document is described. The goal of the proposed method is to realize a practical document structure analysis for advanced optical character recognition systems with document databases. The authors mainly discuss a structural extraction technique called “text area extraction” which locates all text areas in 255 of the 309 (83%) evaluation documents
