Abstract
An encapsulated photonic crystal is proposed and developed, where an encapsulating cap is formed on top of the air columns. Cross-sectional view of air column triangular lattice PC slab-waveguide (PCS) structures is shown in without and with encapsulated caps, respectively. Simulation results towards high efficiency photonic crystal surface emitting layers (PCSELs) by means of spontaneous emission control, surface recombination reduction, and efficient electrical injection schemes
