Abstract :
Although currently the automotive industry represents one of the key areas of the Slovak national economy, there is a lack of qualified workers on the Slovak labour market and moreover the graduates of relevant secondary vocational schools are assessed as not prepared properly according the practice and employers´ demands. That was why the authors in their research work started to deal with the issues of efficiency of the vocational training of workers for motor-car repair services. The research problem was to find a way to improve efficiency of the vocational training in the motor-car repair area. As a possible solution to this research problem they proposed a conception of ICT supported vocational training for the relevant secondary school study programmes. Consequently the conception was verified in practice by means of a pedagogical experiment. The experiment proved positive impact of the created conception of the vocational training on formation and development professional competencies (knowledge and skills) of the apprentices as to both qualitative and quantitative aspects of their professional performance. On the other hand this positive influence proved to be topic dependent, i.e. in comparison with the traditional way of the vocational training better results through the new conception have been achieved only in some topical areas of the training.
