Abstract
There are several standards for personal communication services, PCS; both cellular and cordless. The GSM is the fastest growing digital cellular standard with a global investment of over $50 billion in infrastructure and has been adopted in over 86 countries worldwide. With the advent of the DCS1800 also based on the GSM standard in Europe and the PCS1900 in North America, both TDMA and CDMA offers several options to service and network operators. The GSM is a platform service. The author proposes the use of a modified DCS1800 or upbanded GSM standard to serve as the platform technology for next generation PCS1900 in North America. An RF solution that is targeted for the DCS1800 and PCS1900 is discussed. One can use the same radio solution for GSM
