Abstract
A framework for a knowledge-based cell controller to deal with the deficiencies of the conventional cell controller is proposed. The framework is used to design and implement a knowledge-base embedded object-oriented control system using the Prokappa expert system development tool. In this way, the heuristics human knowledge is incorporated into the cell controller. Changes in the production environment and operation rules can be easily accommodated by modifying the embedded rule-sets. The functionality of the cell controller is studied and mapped to the knowledge-based framework
