Abstract :
A National Science Foundation funded national symposium was conducted with the primary focus of stimulating a national dialogue on establishing engineering education opportunities in colleges of engineering in the U.S. The symposium highlighted opportunities and challenges of four institutions with engineering education programs and brought in key stakeholders to investigate the past, present, and future of engineering education. The outcomes of the symposium consist of 1) Deans´ concerns reflected to starting engineering education academic programs and 2) A list of opportunities and challenges of starting an engineering education academic program.
