  • Abstract
The telecommunications industry today faces the ever growing specter of major service interruptions. One source of these outages is the very power equipment it has relied on for over a century to maintain the network. Maintenance is a major factor in power conversion equipment performance. Each manufacturer has developed detailed preventive maintenance procedures to ensure product dependability. These procedures address both the interaction of all components within the total system and the unique requirements of the individual components. The authors argue that, when selecting new equipment, preventive maintenance and repair procedures should be compared to the existing imbedded base for similarities
