Abstract
This paper reports a preliminary identification study of the wind resource at the state of Michoacán. This preliminary evaluation is carried out in forty meteorological stations located at the state of Michoacán and islands of the Pacific Ocean. The wind speed is extrapolated to 80 meters height using the logarithmic wind profile law. The software WAsP is used to obtain a statistical analysis of the wind speed data, while a program coded in JAVA allows filtering wind data fed to the WAsP program. This analysis provides the mean speed value, power density, frequency distribution speed histogram and the wind rose of the wind resource. WAsP results indicate that the state of Michoacán has moderate wind resources at sites such as Tepuxtepec, Laguna Fresno and the islands Clarion and Socorro in the Pacific Ocean. Results reported in this work represent a set of preliminary outcomes that can be used to carry out future research works.
