Abstract
In the recent years, there has been a significant growth in the electrical power requirement in our country; this is due to the advancement of the technology of transmission system to transmit the bulk power over the long distances effectively. The transmission system voltages has increased to 765 kV ac and 800kV dc, at the same time 1200 kV ac and 800kV dc transmission are under experimentation. There is an increasing concern about the electric and magnetic fields produced by UHV ac and dc overhead lines might have on human beings both psychologically and physically. Consequently, a need exists to determine the magnitude and distribution of these fields and if necessary to reduce them for better safety. In the present investigation estimation of electric field distribution near the high voltage transmission lines is carried out for extra/ultra high voltage (EHV/UHV) ac and dc transmission lines by a developed computer program based on charge simulation method (CSM). The results of simulation for both UHV ac and dc voltages are analyzed and presented.
