Abstract
Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging provides a unique in vivo assessment of arterial disease. Currently this procedure has a number of limitations, some of which are addressed in this paper. A prototype unit has been designed to overcome non-uniform catheter withdrawal, and a study developed to enhance NUS images with minimal loss in image detail. The radial division of images into regions for tissue identification is discussed and fuzzy logic is used to characterise different tissue types in the arterial wall
