Abstract :
After years of research effort, the Australian Government is now committed to build the Jindalee Over-The-Horizon Radar Network (JORN), which will enable a comprehensive and cost effective surveillance of the northern and western approaches of Australia. In order to realise the full potential of the technology embodied within the radar system, the Department of Defence is keen to incorporate the experience and higher level knowledge of the research scientists of the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) into the control of JORN. A team of BHP knowledge engineers has worked closely with DSTO scientists and software engineers. A software application has been developed to capture and disseminate the radar tasking knowledge from the scientists. This application has demonstrated that the technology, if successfully deployed could have a major impact on the efficacy of JORN facilities
