Abstract :
This paper present a software system for fast rendering from extremely large textures. The textures are compressed using residual vector quantization to a rate of 1 bpp, and are loaded along with the codebooks into video memory. All decompression is done on-the-fly by fast software on the graphics accelerator. A novel two-pass rendering method allows sophisticated texture filtering methods to be used for high image quality.
