Abstract :
This paper presents an low power Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) demodulator for Medical Implant Communications Service (MICS) band Receiver. The demodulator draws 500 uA from a 1 V power supply. The maximum data rate up to 400 Kbits/s can be achieved in 300 KHz bandwidth at carrier frequency of 1.35 MHz. A simulated signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 14 dB is obtained to achieve 0.1% bit error rate (BER) at a relative low 150 mV voltage swing. This demodulator is fabricated on 65 nm CMOS. A fifth-order gm-C filter is first time realized for pulse averaging. It replaces the LC low pass filter and dramatically saves the chip area. The demodulator occupies 0.12 mm2 silicon area.
