Abstract :
In this paper we presented the first analytically justified study of the operation of an inductively loaded phase conjugating wire array as a means for near field focusing. We have definitively shown that inductive loading of the array leads to a generation of the near scattered field predominantly determined by a convolution of a current distribution with the real part of the Greens function which oscillates at a subwavelength scale. In addition we have shown both analytically and numerically the role of phase conjugation in providing constructive near field focus formation. Further it has been shown that interleaving the wires with absorptive material permits subwavelength near field beam formation with low side lobe levels.
