Abstract :
The authors present a computationally efficient 2-D spectrum estimation method using three spectrum estimations corresponding to the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal directions under the assumption that the 2-D data arrays are represented as 2-D sinusoids in white noise. Polynomials corresponding to the z-transforms of each trigonometric identity equations represent linear-phase FIR (finite-impulse-response) filters. Using the property, the authors develop a modified Pisarenko method which achieves faster convergence with less computational complexity when compared to the original Pisarenko method. It is also shown that the modified 2-D Pisarenko method is unbiased. Finally, an asynchronous pipelined array chain architecture to increase computational throughput and parallelism is developed.<>
