Abstract :
As a large scale Telecommunications Operator with a vast network as well as a large customer base, determining the most efficient and effective means of battery maintenance has always been an important and also a huge task for China Mobile. Starting in 2006, China Mobile has been investigating the potential of using an Ohmic testing method to play a role in easing the huge workload of battery maintenance. Progress has been made in using Ohmic testing in new battery approval inspection, and the maintenance work of batteries in the network. With more testing data collected and experience gathered, China Mobile started to consider using ohmic testing technology in the monitoring area. This paper will introduce how an Ohmic monitoring system can be used to identify battery state of health and integrated into a large scale Power Operations Management System (POMS System) created by Zhejiang Province of China Mobile. This monitoring module is installed to monitor the battery´s voltage, conductance and temperature, all such data could be transferred to the central monitoring office from the POMS system. This application provides the most timely and reliable information of the battery´s latest status, greatly increasing battery maintenance efficiency and also providing higher reliability of the network´s operation.
