Abstract
In this paper we study the cost structure of a software system for the visual classification of industrial parts. We investigate two different development methodologies and compare them using a suitable cost function. The first approach aims to the development of a piece of software fully tailored to the specific problem, while the second one exploits the capabilities of adaptive signal processing techniques to reduce the software production test
