Abstract :
Air traffic is expected to increase more than 70 percent by the year 2025. A major challenge for supporting this type of growth is the arrival and departure capacity at major airports. There are many initiatives being developed to address the arrival capacity issue at these airports, but very few are designed to enable a corresponding increase in the departure capacity. As a part of The MITRE Corporation´s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) research program, a concept that could increase the departure capacity at 14 of the 35 busiest U.S. airports is being investigated.
