Abstract :
In order to improve efficiency of the expressway and solve the problem of traffic congestion, the idea of HOV lanes is introduced in this paper and based on the multinomial logit model the passenger transit mode prediction model is established in the case of the HOV lanes for the expressway set. The options set choose the car of one passenger, the car of two passengers, the car of more than two passengers and buses as programs. The traffic data collection is get from the Jiuhuashan tunnel in Nanjing. The passenger transit mode prediction model was applied to quantize the traffic condition based on the stated preference investigation. The traffic condition is improved compared with the original traffic by using the HOV lanes. The results show that the HOV lane is feasible for the Chinese urban freeway traffic management system.
