Abstract :
The author explains what environmental engineering is, why we use it, and what benefits can be derived from using the environmental engineering approach. He also looks at some of the varied aspects which must be borne in mind, and finally, he demonstrates how problems experienced in the field can often be traced back to overlooking an environmental engineering principle. The author attempts to create an awareness, in both designers and end-users, of the importance of recognizing the real environment in which a product is expected to perform. It has been found that knowledge of the effects of the often aggressive environment, together with application of the necessary precautions, will result in improved yet cost-effective product performance
