Abstract :
Conditions were studied for direct and reverse latching behavior of the FLC (ferroelectric liquid crystals) cells following symmetric bilateral voltage pulses. Fast addressing modes for the SSFLC (surface-stabilized FLC) matrices are presented that depending on the modulation of the high-frequency components occurring in special selection sequences rather than on the modulation of the Vdt integral in the writing time. With these modes, the voltage nonlinearity derived from a negative dielectric anisotropy can be effectively utilized. Speed improvements as large as two were experimentally found.<>
