Abstract
Dynamic reconfiguration for WSN is a field that attracts a lot of attention nowadays. There is interest in transmitting not only data, but also functionalities from one node to another. It is well established that this topic is a huge energy consumer during the RF communication between nodes. In-situ compilation is the next obvious step in minimizing the transmission time between such nodes of a WSN, in the case of sending firmware updates or functionalities. Due to the low level of the bytecode for Virtual Machines in WSN, it implies a lot of instructions for the simplest of duties. Consequently, we have focused on building a new language, MinTax, and its corresponding compiler. This will ensure prolonged node running time, by minimizing battery usage in areas of relatively frequent firmware updates or functionality interchange. Our solution, judging from a blink example, is twice as better better than the corresponding bytecode for Maté VM and around ten times better than the one for the Darjeeling VM.
