  • Abstract
An adaptive controller can provide excellent performance and improve the dynamic performance of a plant by allowing the parameters of the controller to adjust as the operating conditions change. Various approaches using analytical and/or artificial intelligence (AI) based algorithms can be used to design an adaptive controller. It is also possible that the analytical and AI techniques be integrated such that some functions are performed using analytical approach while the rest are performed using AI techniques. Successful implementation of purely AI and integrated approaches is illustrated by application as an adaptive power system stabilizer to improve damping and stability of an electric generating unit
