Abstract
The power transformer thermal response related to a load curve can be verified by a tridimensional model using finite elements. This paper presents the modeling and the software developed for this purpose and compares the results with local tests data of two critical points - the top of the oil and the winding hot spot. Using the technique described, the maximum load limit of power transformers can be determinate, and operation costs and system expansion can be analyzed.
