Title :
Problems of estimation and measurement of motion in television

Abstract :
This paper describes the need for motion estimation and its use in motion compensated interpolation. In particular it describes the many occasions that real television signals fail to follow the rules of the simple motion models used in analysing and developing early motion estimation systems. It reaches the conclusion that a key element of any real time motion estimation system for television signals, is the capability of the motion estimator to monitor its own performance and produce a relevant control signal for the application using the motion vectors
