Abstract
In order to predict and optimize parameters in microwave heating systems, electromagnetic simulation is convenient and necessary. For such applications, wire antennas in the presence of metallic and dielectric bodies with arbitrary shapes have been researched. A hybrid integral approach treating thin wire and thick wire antennas together with metallic and inhomogeneous dielectric bodies is applied to compute the input impedance of a dielectric loaded cavity with coaxial probe-feeding. Two models for the wire antenna treatment are compared and validated with dipoles and probe-fed monopoles. The thin wire model is valid only when the wire radius is electrically small. When the radius is larger than about 0.005λ, the surface model can be applied. The formulation can be used to analyze thin and thick wire antennas in the presence of conducting surfaces and dielectric volumes with arbitrary shapes for the probe-feeding.
