Abstract :
A small broadband antenna with the vertically polarized, omnidirectional field pattern over 100 - 500 MHz (VSWR<2) is studied. The input impedance of the conical antenna varies with the flare angle, as expected. It is observed that an optimum flare angle exists for 50Omega matched impedance. From the results obtained, it is concluded that improvement in bandwidth can be achieved with the height of the conical antenna is approximately equal to the base radius of the cone, i.e. a flare angle of 45deg is optimal for all cases considered here
