Abstract :
A 2D planar Luneburg lens cooperating with a MMIC reflection amplifier for radar cross-section (RCS) enhancement is reported. The lens will operate in TEM mode in K band. A K band MMIC reflection amplifier when attached with lens feed, produces an additional measured reflection gain of 10 dB at 19.6 GHz, above that which can be obtained from an equivalent passive Luneburg lens reflector. Additionally this system demonstrates that the reflected signal can be amplitude modulated through the amplifier bias variation. This new system shows that the reflection amplifier terminated Luneburg lens reflector can act as a simple means for realising active RCS augmentation.
