  • Abstract
Reverse link Erlang capacity of the IS-95 CDMA cellular communication system is investigated analytically. Based on the observation of the impact of fading on the statistical properties of the multiple access interference, we include the fading channel multipath intensity profile in the Erlang capacity formula. In comparison with the previous work, a lower numerical value of the Erlang capacity is obtained for the current IS-95 system. The optimum multipath intensity profile to achieve the highest capacity is shown. A closed form expression for the required signal energy to interference power density ratio as a function of the number of transmission paths and receiver antennas is derived. To increase the system capacity, an artificial multipath transmission scheme is investigated using the new capacity formula
