Abstract :
It cannot be denied that documents in the form of hardcopy are still being used, especially important documents such as land titles, application forms, contracts and tickets. However there are reports of forgery cases over the years and as such, it is imperative to have a mechanism for integrity verification of hardcopy document. This research proposed the usage of two-dimensional (2D) barcodes, which has the capability of storing data, to assist in reducing the action of hardcopy forgeries. However the spatial resource of 2D barcodes is an issue because used space on printed page is a precious commodity and therefore it must be carefully conserved. This study performs spatial analysis on several 2D barcodes using various size data sets. In addition the work also includes the analysis of several compression applications which can be used in minimizing barcodes size. The study shows that compression software GZIP and BZIP2 and 2D barcode QR Code or Data Matrix display effective spatial usage and is appropriate for the application in integrity verification of hardcopy document system.
