Abstract :
A method of measuring the reflection coefficient of a RF device under test at a remote location is presented. By measuring the voltage magnitude and phase at two separated points along a transmission line, the ratio of reverse and forward waves on the transmission line is calculated. High-impedance, 25 GHz bandwidth reflection mode electro-absorption modulators (REAM) are used to probe the voltages without perturbing the signal along the transmission line. Since the RF voltage signals are converted by each REAM to optical signals on fiber, freedom to locate the DUT far away from the test set is achieved
