Abstract :
For the architecture of large-scale variable length packet switch whose capacity reaches terabits per second, a deflection routing-based multistage interconnection network is attractive for its simple routing process. The authors have proposed a new deflection routing-based switch where switch elements are interconnected in a ring topology and input ports are distributed within a ring. The performance of this switch is compared with a conventional deflection routing-based switch. Results show that the required amount of hardware of output modules of the proposed switch is significantly reduced compared with the conventional switch by allowing applied packets to take turns many times in the ring. Finally, the performance of the switch is also compared with the knockout switch, and its effectiveness is shown
