Abstract
In recent years there has been a worrying increase in the volume of discarded electronics and most of these are disposed of in landfills without any attempt to recycle the materials they contain. The limited availability of landfills and the needs of society and industry, in particular, to adopt a more sustainable material consumption have led to greater emphasis on issues of end of life electronics. In addition, the implementation of legislation in developing such Directive Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) will result in an increase in the recovery and recycling of electronics scrap.
