Abstract :
An electrical resistivity model is proposed to describe the relationship of the resistivity with measurement on the skin surface and by calculation of tissues composing a limb. A specific analysis was performed in a group of subjects with 5 kHz current injected at the surface of the calf. This study showed that calculated resistivity using the model was highly correlated with the values of resistivity by actual measurement. The results indicate that the volume of fat mass is an important factor influencing the estimation of body composition using the standard four-electrode bioimpedance technique.
