Abstract :
This article focuses on the issues of assurance of functional safety in relation to ecodesign of machine tools. Legislative requirements (2006/42/EC [1], 2009/125/EC [3]) and requirements of current standards (EN ISO 13849-1 [8], EN ISO 13849-2 [9], EN 62061 [10], EN ISO 14006 [5], EN ISO 14040 [6]) are discussed. The current state in assurance of functional safety and ecodesign is presented. The methodology for determining the optimum settings of machine tools for maximum functional safety and minimum energy consumption is outlined.
