Abstract :
Wireless sensor network (WSN) is proposed to be implemented in telemedicine. However, there are some requirements for WSN design in order to be implemented in this area. One of the requirements is data reliability in term of congestion management. For medical device network, there are other parameters to be counted besides data rate; congestion degree, medical device priority, and emergency scale. This paper discusses a novel effective bandwidth allocation algorithm (EBAL) for medical device wireless network. To calculate bandwidth allocation, EBAL includes four important parameters: congestion degree, device priority index, emergency index, and rate class, which have not been used by existing protocols. This protocol uses asynchronous time division multiplexing (ATDM) for communication scheduling. The ATDM is optimized to maximize the slots utilization. The simulation and experiment test results show that the algorithm is successfully able to manage the bandwidth allocation effectively based on the parameters as well as maximize the slot utilization by optimizing ATDM.
