  • Abstract
An analytical study of the stability of the contention mechanism of the PRMA++ protocol is presented. The analysis provides a deep insight into the performance of this protocol for voice services. Both a steady state analysis and a dynamic analysis are presented. The dynamic analysis provides an indication of the time it takes the protocol to reach unstable operation, which is used to quantify the relative instability of the contention mechanism. Numerical results show that the dynamic analysis can provide a less conservative design approach than the classical steady state analysis
