Abstract
Horizontal loop antennas, called HLAs, improve overall signal quality on weak signals relative to the quality achieved using the standard telescoping whip which comes with most modern shortwave broadcast receivers. This article presents: (1) construction details for several versions of the HLA; and (2) operational instructions for use of the HLA with portable battery-operated shortwave receivers and with desktop receivers powered by AC.<>
