Abstract
The suspension of a selfsupporting metal-free optical fibre cable in high voltage overhead networks is an economic solution for the telecommunication needs of power companies. Electrical stress mechanisms give an important contribution to the ageing of the cable. Corona at the end of the suspension spiral and tracking are the two most important mechanisms. Electric field strength calculations and partial discharge measurements show that there are possibilities to prevent the damage
