Abstract
Gives details of the use of DSC to examine the effect of time and temperature in producing thermal histories in crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) and ethylene propylene rubber (EPR). This information is then applied to insulation removed from actual cables in order to establish details of the previous operating conditions of the cables. The technique is not restricted to XLPE but can be used on any partially crystalline thermoplastic material
