Communications on the move-INMARSAT´s services in the future

In contrast to fixed satellite communications which are approaching maturity and are being challenged strongly by other technologies, commercial mobile satellite communications are just over 10 years old in 1988 and are still very much a growing and evolving communications medium, building on rapid advances in technology. Under its development programme INMARSAT is working on a wide range of new mobile communication services based on the development of new types of mobile terminals. Also under consideration are new generations of satellites employing spot-beams and providing higher radiated power and increased sensitivity. General objectives of these developments are outlined
