Abstract
INMARSAT has been developing new systems, namely the Standard-B system, the Standard-C system and the aeronautical satellite communication system, using digital communication technology. These systems are also aimed at penetration into the new market not covered by the current system responding to the various users demand. Especially, the Standard-C ship Earth station has a feature in its small, light-weight and low-cost terminal, and store-and-forward message transfer is a basic type of services. INMARSAT plans to start this new service in 1989. The authors describe the results of the basic propagation characteristics of the Standard-C system, obtained from the field trial using INMARSAT´s satellite of the Indian Ocean Region
