Abstract
The global aeronautical satellite communication services for voice and data communications are going to be provided by INMARSAT (International Maritime Satellite Organization) in the near future. The field trial on the experimental aeronautical satellite communication system for voice/data services was successfully conducted in Japan by using the passenger airplane. The authors had designed the digital transmission systems applicable to the future global maritime satellite communications, and made the field experiments using the digital communication subsystem which was developed based on the INMARSAT Standard-B (digital ship Earth station) system parameters. The system design concept of the digital maritime satellite communications is broadly applicable to the other mobile satellite communication systems such as aeronautical one. The technical design aspects featuring the aeronautical satellite communication system are highlighted and analyzed, taking account of the system parameters specified in the INMARSAT SDM (System Definition Manual)
