Abstract
The authors look at the use of highly elliptic orbits for a European LMS service, which will give improved elevation coverage and reduced fade-margins and possibly allow economic services to be provided by the mid 1990´s with conventional technology. The ability of such systems to also cover the polar regions have possible applications for land, maritime and aeronautical systems
