Abstract :
The Communications Research Group (CRG) of Newcastle Polytechnic and the Transport Operations Research Group (TORG) of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne have been collaborating on the development of a microwave data-communications system between moving vehicle and a roadside beacon, since the end of 1985. A continuation of this work is the development of a two-way communications system which has been designed to satisfy the requirements of nonstop toll collection. It is intended to investigate its potential for use in other road traffic information applications. The high data rates make this system suitable for applications such as the transmission of drive information and route guidance
