Abstract :
There are a number of reasons for MATLAB´s popularity: a powerful graphics engine; interpretation rather than compilation for ease of use; mathematically intuitive constructions. This discussion focuses on the last of these issues: the fact that MATLAB manipulates data in a way which is (often) intuitive to mathematicians rather than in a way which is efficient for computation (as in languages such as C, for example). Due to its interpretive nature computation speed is higher than it could otherwise be but it seems that many people are more than happy to make that trade
