Transaction capabilities-the new dimension

The arrival of the intelligent network has added a new dimension to signalling transaction capabilities. A new dimension of CCITT No 7 that allows exchanges and databases throughout a network to co-operate in the provision of intelligent network services such as free-phone and virtual networking. A new dimension that also allows exchanges within the network to co-operate in the support of network-wide features for both residential and Centrex customers. The authors examine the protocols used to provide transaction capabilities and give examples of their application in supporting intelligent network services. The impact of intelligent network services on the architecture of a typical public network switching product is also considered
