Abstract :
A practical regenerative comparator will be modeled as a comparator with ideal sampling accuracy preceded by a time-windowing function. An analysis of the regenerative comparator will be presented resulting in an expression for the windowing function in terms of the time constants of the comparator. The windowing function is useful for determining the sampling accuracy of the comparator and its sensitivity to pre- and post-clock analog inputs. Data from measurements that are consistent with the analysis will be presented. Design implications of the windowing function will be discussed.
