    Computerisation is a general strategy justified by the continuing fall in the cost of processing. The author describes how this gradual introduction of digital control has spread to all parts of process line systems and although gradual at a strategic level it becomes a step function to the people and equipment involved. First the separate building blocks are considered and then applications in two different process industries are described
